From the Chester Evening Leader:

A PETITION signed by more than 150 residents concerned about heavy traffic has been handed over at County Hall.

Residents of St. James Avenue, Upton, Chester are campaigning for traffic calming and a reduction in the speed limit to 20mph outside Upton High School.

More than 150 residents signed the petition, which also called for the removal of school buses and coaches, and it was presented to cabinet member for highways, County Cllr John Burke.

Tory representatives for Upton Westlea Ward, Cllrs Pat Lott and Caroline Mosley, presented the petition to County Cllr Burke and said they will be meeting representatives of Upton High School to resolve the problem.

Cllr Lott said: “The road is not built to take the volume of traffic generated by Upton High School.

“A new entrance to the school off the A41 should be considered as a solution.”

Cllr Lott added that residents were also annoyed by bus drivers leaving their engines running for more than 30 minutes while waiting outside the school....

And these are Tories? No wonder Bush gets along so well with Blair. 31 minute bus idling is not a government issue.
