Oppose Traffic Calming Obstructions
Saturday, July 22, 2006
It's too easy to find
these (so why don't I do it more often?):
Election Day isn't for another couple of months, but Original Carrollwood residents soon will start getting their ballots.
But instead of the next governor, congressmen or state legislators, residents will vote on whether to implement a series of traffic-calming measures for their community....
Traffic calming has been a contentious issue for Original Carrollwood, an area roughly bordered by Dale Mabry Highway, Busch Boulevard, along with Armenia and Fletcher avenues. The county's neighborhood traffic calming department has held four public meetings to discuss the issues of speeding and cut-through traffic.
Many residents supported traffic calming, saying that too many people use Orange Grove Drive to avoid getting stuck in traffic on Dale Mabry Highway. They have also complained about speeding and property damage.
Meanwhile, opponents of traffic calming have expressed concerns that some traffic-calming measures, particularly speed humps, will delay police and emergency vehicles.
